Privacy Policy of Caffeine

Caffeine does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.

This privacy policy explains how Caffeine (the "App") handles information. In short: the App runs entirely on your Mac and does not send any data about you or your usage to us or to any third party.

What the App does

Caffeine places an icon in the macOS menu bar. From that menu you can ask your Mac to stay awake — keeping the display on, preventing idle sleep, keeping disks awake, preventing system sleep, or declaring the user active — either indefinitely, for a duration you choose, or for as long as an application you select is running. You can also save these combinations as presets and copy the equivalent shell command to your clipboard. The App does this by driving /usr/bin/caffeinate, the sleep-prevention tool Apple ships with macOS. It installs no daemon, no privileged helper, and no kernel extension, it never asks for an administrator password, and it replaces or patches nothing in the system. It performs no other function.

The App does not read your documents, does not observe your screen or your keyboard, and asks for no access to your files, camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, photos, location, or accessibility features.

"While an App Is Running"

If you choose to keep your Mac awake for as long as a particular application is running, the App needs to know which applications are currently open in order to present you with a list, and then to check whether the one you selected is still running. It reads this from macOS itself. This information is used only to decide when to release the power-management assertion; it is not recorded in any log, and it is never transmitted anywhere. If you do not use this feature, the App does not consult it.

No account, no login, no tracking

The App has no user accounts, no sign-up, no login, and no user profiles. We do not ask you for any personal information such as name, email address, or payment details.

The App contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting that transmits data off-device, no cookies, and no tracking technologies of any kind. We do not know who uses the App, when, or how.

No cloud, no server, no backend

Arpacore B.V. does not operate any server, database, or cloud service in connection with this App. The App contains no networking code whatsoever: it cannot make a network connection, it has no update service that phones home, and it does not use iCloud or any other Apple cloud service to store or sync data. It works entirely offline. The only address it can open is arpacore.com, and only when you click that link yourself, at which point your browser — not the App — makes the request.

Your settings

Your preferences — which options you last enabled, the durations and presets you saved, the application you chose for "While an App Is Running", and whether the App should open at login — are stored locally on your Mac in the standard macOS preferences location for the App. They are not transmitted to Arpacore B.V. or to any third party.

How the App is distributed

Caffeine is distributed as a disk image (.dmg) downloaded directly from arpastore.com, not through the Apple App Store. It is signed with a Developer ID certificate issued to Arpacore B.V. and notarised by Apple. The download is served by our hosting provider, which processes standard web server request data (such as your IP address and browser user agent) for the purpose of delivering the file and maintaining the security of the service. This is the ordinary operation of any website and is described in the Arpastore website privacy policy; the App itself is not involved.

When you open a downloaded application for the first time, macOS checks its notarisation with Apple as part of its own security process. That check is performed by your operating system under Apple's privacy policy, and its results are not shared with us.

Deleting your data

Because no data about you is stored on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete. To remove all App-related data from your Mac, quit the App and move it from the Applications folder to the Trash.

Children

The App is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Your rights under the GDPR

Because Arpacore B.V. does not collect or process any personal data through the App, rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection do not practically apply to data held by us — we hold none. If you have any questions or believe this is not the case, you may contact us at privacy@arpacore.com, and you always have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If the App's behavior changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page. You are encouraged to review it periodically. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date below.
